Very nice letter of congratulations from the great man addressed to his friend jules Janin following his reception at the French academy on 9 November 1871. "I wasn't at the institute yesterday, yet I was; my public presence was useless to you; but you know well that my heart and my mind were where they applauded you. I am proud to be named in your noble and beautiful speech; you belong to the great historical academy, composed of the only names that supernatant, very diverse, yet one; you are in this legion of minds a light. There is in you something horrible and something diderot; we listen to you as the first and lon loves you as the second. I am yours with all my heart.

Victor Hugo claims to be "proud to be named in your noble and beautiful [reception] speech." Jules Janin quotes on two occasions the one whom he describes as "Jupiter Tonnant".
