My dear friend, yesterday I had the gracious visit from your wife and your son who has recovered from the flu.

We talked a lot about you, but I was so unwell that the visit was cut short. I no longer have the flu, at least I no longer cough, but I am slowly regaining my strength. I am stumbling when walking like I was six months ago. So many physical miseries overwhelm me and I am good for nothing. I regret that the beneficial stay in Arcachon cannot be extended any longer for you; you feel deeply the great calm of this beautiful country and you need it at this moment when sorrows are added to your health trials. René Armand François Prudhomme, known as Sully Prudhomme, born in Paris on March 16, 1839 and died in Châtenay-Malabry on September 6, 1907, is a French poet, the first laureate of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1901. Georges Lafenestre is a French poet, art critic, and art historian born on May 5, 1837 in Orléans and died on May 19, 1919 in Bourg-la-Reine.
