François Louis Français (1814/1897), painter, engraver and illustrator, associated with the Barbizon school, was one of the most renowned landscape artists of his time. Édouard Charton (1807/1890) journalist, politician and especially publisher, launched Le Tour du Monde, Le Magasin Pittoresque and the Bibliothèque des Merveilles.
