Signed autograph letter by Charles-Augustin Sainte-Beuve, October 6, 1866
“Sainte-Beuve” addressed to an unidentified correspondent. Paris, October 6, 1866 (“6 8bre 1866”). 205 × 135 mm, brown ink on a single leaf. In very good condition, with fold marks. A courteous, introductory letter proposing a meeting. “I would be delighted, Sir, to have the honor of meeting you in person and talking with you. I do not have your direct address and I assume you are in Paris and not in the surrounding area. Would you like to come one day at the end of this week at 4 p., Friday for example, or Saturday?
Please do not trouble yourself to reply. Please accept the assurance of my highest regards.” A gracious and spontaneous testimony from the great critic, then at the height of his reputation, during the years of publication of the Nouveaux Lundis.
