I am leaving shortly for Switzerland. I am taking Violence & conscience with me. I am glad that you like my Sade. Would it be possible for me to obtain, at my own expense of course, a separate printing of 100 copies?

You would be doing me a great service. I am seriously considering a Valéry [We have not found any trace of a work by Paulhan devoted to the poet]. Scève [Maurice Scève]: It would be very good if you could give it to us at the beginning of October.

Ah, regarding sadism, there is also, which sheds light on it, what you express so well in today's Figaro. As the director of La Table ronde publishing, Maulnier published Paulhan's article "The Marquis de Sade and His Accomplice or the Revenge of Modesty" in the third issue of 1945.

The eponymous book was published six years later by Lilac editions, in 1951. For his part, Maulnier also published his eighth essay Violence and Conscience in 1945.
