René Chomette, also known as René Clair, was a French filmmaker, director, screenwriter, lyricist, and writer, born on November 11, 1898, in Paris and died on March 15, 1981, in Neuilly-sur-Seine. He also used other pseudonyms early in his life: René Després as a journalist and Danceny as a lyricist. René Clair has a brother who is also a filmmaker, Henri Chomette.

He was a member of the Académie Française from 1960 until his death, occupying seat 19.

Autographed letter addressed to a certain Jean-Paul, in which he makes some recommendations regarding a recording that Maurice Chevalier is to make, likely for the film "Le silence est d'or," released in 1947, marking Maurice Chevalier's return to cinema after a seven-year absence.
