One is dated “Tuesday, June 13,” with no year indicated; the other bears only the indication “Monday.” Written in black ink on cream laid paper, each leaf headed with a cold-embossed “M” monogram beneath a crown.
Autograph signature “Mathilde” at the bottom of each letter. In the dated letter, the princess thanks her correspondent for sending a photograph, mentions her upcoming departure from Paris, and sets a meeting, before adding in a postscript that she discovered herself, in the photograph, in the background of a large family portrait belonging to the recipient. The second letter, shorter, cancels a visit planned for the following day and asks for news. Dimensions: 10.1 x 13.2 cm. Condition: Good overall condition, with period central folds, slight soiling, and a small residue of old mounting adhesive on the upper edge of the second letter.
