Prince Joachim Murat: 2 autograph letters signed, steeplechases, 1869
Prince Joachim Murat - 2 signed autograph letters - Steeplechases - 1869. The first letter is dated December 23, 1869, at Gros Bois. The second letter is undated. The first letter is written in black ink on a laid paper sheet with a watermark, with a printed crowned monogram in reddish-brown in the letterhead.
The second letter is written in pencil on a browned laid paper sheet. In the first letter, Prince Murat urges his correspondent, an officer, to come to Paris for a meeting of the committee of the Cercle de la rue Royale and suggests that he ask his colonel for about ten days’ leave. In the second, he proposes requesting fifty soldiers in order to establish security service all around the track, and summons four correspondents to his home for the following Friday.
Dimensions: 1st letter: 13.1 x 20.6 cm; 2nd letter: 10.6 x 14.7 cm. Condition: First item in good overall condition, original folds inherent to mailing, light foxing and small scattered spots, lower right corner slightly bent. Second item in good overall condition, dusty paper, two horizontal folds, pencil writing partially faded but legible. See photos for more details. Joachim Joseph Napoléon Murat, 4th Prince Murat, born July 21, 1834 in Bordentown, Burlington County, New Jersey, and died October 23, 1901 at Château de Chambly, grandson of Joachim Murat and Caroline Bonaparte, was a general of the Second Empire.
