"Chateaubriand often told me: I have always been bored, always. I replied to him: it is because you have not occupied yourself with others.

His wife, a remarkably strong-minded woman, exclaimed: You are quite right! The Memoirs from Beyond the Grave are proof that indeed this great man of letters was only concerned with himself.
