Pierre de Bréville (February 21, 1861 - September 24, 1949) was a French composer. He studied at the Paris Conservatory and became a close associate of César Franck. He composed orchestral works, chamber music, and songs. Bréville was also a professor at the Paris Conservatory, influencing many musicians of his time.

In 1887, Charles Lamoureux, a fervent admirer of Richard Wagner, decided to present the opera Lohengrin in concert version for the first time in Paris. The first performance took place on May 3 at the Éden-Théâtre and was an artistic success.

However, the tense political context, marked by the Schnaebelé affair — a diplomatic crisis between France and Germany following the arrest of a French commissioner accused of espionage — intensified nationalist feelings. Lohengrin, seen as a symbol of German culture, provoked strong anti-German reactions and hostile demonstrations near the theater. These tensions forced Lamoureux to cancel the following performances, marking a significant episode in the cultural and political debates of the time.

The subscribers to the Lamoureux bronze will meet on Monday morning at exactly 10 a.
