Postcard with address on the back on purple paper. Worn paper and small tear on the lower left edge of the letter. Size: 13 x 18 cm with frame (included) / 9 x 14 cm card only. In the last decade of his life, Paul Verlaine stayed in about eight hospitals of public assistance.

In the Broussais hospital alone, he had up to ten stays. Despite his deplorable health condition, he demonstrated significant literary output. The kindness of Professor Chauffard allowed him to hold a salon around his bed. The rejection from former friends in Letters did not prevent him from reestablishing a rather important network of correspondents and admirers.

Patrick Picornot, Verlaine creator at the Broussais hospital. Dear Sir, obliged by a relapse to return to the hospital, I would be happy to see you there from time to time between 1 and 3, the regulated hours. Believe in all my memories and my deep sympathy. Hospital Broussais, bed 1, Parrot room, 96 rue Didot, Paris (Petit Montrouge). Excerpt from the poem "En 17".

Composed by Verlaine on January 15, 1889. The park laughs with filtered rays, With kisses, with bursts of women's voices. The air smells good, it is everything.

All flames, And the courtyards, too, go, ablaze. A flute in the distance sounds the charge Of lofty and frivolous loves, Of sincere loves and the mad, And of Love, multifaceted and broad... Below, one of the last portraits of Verlaine, by Otto Wegener, in 1893.
