Brown ink on vellum paper sheet. In this letter addressed to an anonymous correspondent, Paul Gavarni wishes to arrange an urgent meeting regarding the publication of Masques et Visages.

This work, published between 1852 and 1853, is considered the artist’s major masterpiece, bringing together his finest series of lithographs. He emphasizes the confidential nature of his retreat, strongly insisting that his temporary address remain absolutely secret. Dimensions: 13.2 x 14.8 cm. A shadow mark that does not affect the legibility of the letter and brown ink or water stains scattered across the sheet. Traces of tabs on the back of the letter. See photos for more details. Paul Gavarni, known as Gavarni, the pseudonym of Sulpice-Guillaume Chevallier, born in Paris on January 13, 1804, and died in Paris on November 23, 1866, was a French draughtsman, watercolorist, and lithographer. He was the father of painter Pierre Gavarni.
