Signed autograph letter to Henri Massis. Signed autograph letter, Paris, January 30, 1938, 2 pages in-8° on paper with his address, to Henri Massis. Rare critical letter regarding Roger Martin du Gard. The poet expresses his congratulations to Massis for his courageous article criticizing the writer Roger Martin du Gard. He condemns the choice of the Swedish Academy to honor this writer with a Nobel Prize, whom he considers talentless, accusing him of slandering and dishonoring France through his writings. He believes that the play performed in Stockholm, depicting abominable turpitudes, is a true insult to France and French writers. The original envelope is preserved.

I sincerely congratulate you on your excellent and courageous article about Mr. Roger Martin du Gard, which I read this morning in L'Echo de Paris. What can I say about the choice by the Academy of Stockholm of this talentless writer who has made it his mission to slander and dishonor his country, either by falsely attributing a share of responsibility for the 1914 war to it, or by slandering our peasants, or by choosing as the subject of a play performed at a gala evening in Stockholm!!!

It is a true insult to France and to French writers worthy of the name. And we pity our unfortunate minister in Stockholm, obliged to welcome this despicable character. I warmly shake your hand.

Period restoration to a corner. Paul Claudel is a French playwright, poet, essayist, and diplomat, a member of the French Academy. He is the brother of the sculptor Camille Claudel, the son-in-law of the architect Louis Sainte-Marie Perrin, and the father-in-law of the diplomat Jacques-Camille Paris. He studied law and philosophy before turning to writing.

His first poems were published in 1890, and in 1893, he wrote his first successful play. He also worked as a diplomat for the French government, which led him to travel to many countries, including China, where he wrote a series of poems inspired by his encounter with Chinese culture. In addition to his poems, he wrote numerous plays, including "Le Soulier de satin" and "L'Annonce faite à Marie". Henri Massis is a literary critic, political essayist, and historian of literature. He created magazines such as "La Revue Universelle" and "La Revue Hebdomadaire", which he set up with his friend Jacques Bainville, and is known for his involvement in Action française.

He held positions in the Vichy administration but, not being part of the collaborationist ultras, he was not greatly affected after the liberation. He was elected to the French Academy in 1960. More information about Paul Claudel. More information about Henri Massis. This is an authentic letter.
