Nélie Jacquemart, Painter: Collection of 8 Signed Autograph Letters
Set of 8 signed handwritten letters.
Set of 8 undated, signed handwritten letters by Nélie Jacquemart, written in black or brown ink on folded sheets of watermarked laid paper.
Two letters bear her embossed monogram at the top.
The letters reveal a distinctly personal side of Jacquemart.
In several, she asks her correspondent for “your good offices with the Captain” as she prepares to embark on a long journey to India via Cairo, Port Said, Alexandria, and Ceylon. She thanks her correspondent for his kindness, repeatedly apologizes for her “indiscretions,” and expresses her sincere gratitude. In other letters, she invites him to her home to make sketches and expresses her interest in two books he has sent her, which she looks forward to reading.
Bridging her private, artistic, and social life, these letters offer a rare glimpse into the personality of an exceptional woman: an acclaimed artist, traveler, and discerning patron of the arts.
