Letizia BONAPARTE (1750 - 1836) - Known by her title "Madame Mère," mother of Napoleon 1. Signed letter, written in French and signed in Italian. Addressed to one of her daughters. "My dear daughter, your librarian has finally handed me your letter of March 4. I was waiting for its return to reply; however, since I believe this is taking too long, I do not want to delay any further in giving you news of myself.

I am very pleased with the efforts you are making to restore your health, and I encourage you to persist in this good resolution. I continue to be in good health. The same goes for your uncle [Cardinal Joseph Fesch]. And generally for those of the family who are in Paris. The Emperor, the Empress, and the King of Rome returned from Trianon the day before yesterday in perfect health.

The Queen of Westphalia [Princess Catherine of Württemberg, wife of Jerome Bonaparte] [castle made available to Madame Mère]. With all her entourage, and she is to reside there during her stay in France. I had the pleasure of embracing her the day before yesterday; she stopped by on her way back from Trianon to have dinner with me and then left for Meudon. During the little time we spent together, a good part was spent discussing you. I have not received news from Louis since my last letter.

At the first opportunity, I will send him yours. I will respond, as you wish, through your librarian to the last item of your letter. Goodbye, my dear daughter, I long for the moment when I can receive you restored and in good health, and I embrace you with all my heart.
