Lieutenant General of the King's armies, elected president of the Order of Nobility in June 1789 at the Estates General, Montmorency Luxembourg helplessly witnesses the birth of the revolutionary process. Attempting to convince the king to act quickly, he observes on July 15 that the monarchy is lost and emigrates to England, then serves as second-in-command of the army of princes.
