Interesting archive compiled by astrologer Jacqueline Aimé on her relationship with painter Georges Mathieu, including 9 signed autograph letters (20 pages in-4) and 12 cards, most of which are on his printed letterhead (Paris, "11 bis avenue Léopold", "125, avenue Malakoff", 17 preserved envelopes). The correspondence traces a romantic friendship lasting nearly forty years, starting from a postcard dated June 18, 1966, where the "Oriental calligrapher" confesses to being charmed by the young woman: "I have been going around in circles thinking of you, distant, dear, and so melodiously present." In a long letter of 5 pages, November 15, 1975, the master of Lyrical Abstraction vigorously defends astrology: "Exactly three centuries ago, by founding the Academy of Sciences in 1666, Colbert, the abject incarnation of bourgeois accounting, launched the greatest official discredit in history on Astrology by expressly forbidding astronomers from taking an interest in it...
If after the onslaught of materialistic scientism in the 19th century the doors of universities are still closed to it, the failure of strict causality in many areas of the so-called exact sciences suggests a new situation in which all forms of Transcendence are beginning to resurge. Tomorrow, even more than during the Renaissance, Structural or Non-Structural Astrology will reclaim its rightful place." This correspondence also documents the support provided by the artist for the writing of the study dedicated to him by Jacqueline Aimé: "The Promethean Adventure of Georges Mathieu" Paris, Éditions du Garde-Temps, 2005, 176 pp. "I must tell you that I will always be indebted to you for writing this book, and how sweet it is for me to be indebted to a person like you." The painter reviews the manuscript, suggests corrections, and sends various documents (typed copies of critiques of his work and different letters, including one concerning Serge Gainsbourg).
