Marie Pleyel, born Marie-Félicité-Denise Moke on July 4, 1811, in Paris and died on March 30, 1875, in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, was a French virtuoso pianist. She was famous for her performances of the works of Beethoven and Chopin. The wife of Camille Pleyel, she contributed to the renown of Pleyel pianos.

Her international career led her to perform in the greatest concert halls of Europe.

I would not have waited for your kind letter this morning, dear Mr. de Trémont, to go to see you today if my unfortunate finger, which has caused me a fever that kept me from sleeping all night, did not force me to stay in bed.

I hope you know me too well not to be convinced that I am telling you nothing but the exact truth, and the feelings of gratitude and affection that I have long held for you must, I think, prevent any accusation of capriciousness toward me.
