From an influential family, she benefited from a privileged musical education and composed several operas, including La Esmeralda, based on Victor Hugo’s Notre-Dame de Paris, with whom she maintained a friendly relationship. She is one of the few women composers of her time to have seen her works performed at the Paris Opera. In this letter, she mentions a rehearsal scheduled for a Friday and asks her correspondent to inform Miss [Mitant] of the changes, as she does not know her address. She ends with friendly wishes and a humorous remark about getting dressed, perhaps suggesting the rush before an important event.

My getting dressed is making my head spin!
