LOUIS XII - Signed letter - Kingdom administration 1506. During his reign, he led the great reform of justice and taxes on the domestic front. Dimensions: 345 x 200 mm. Louis XII was a legislator, reformer, and justiciar, open to the aspirations of his subjects and attentive to simplifying and lightening taxation. He deserved his title of Father of the People. Faced with the growing needs of written documents since the 13th / 14th centuries, the royal administration tends to appoint representatives of royal power with various functions. "Loys by the grace of God King of France. To our beloved and loyal subjects and treasurers [.] general appointed by us for the management of our finances, greetings and affection. We inform you that in consideration of the good and pleasant services that our beloved and loyal notary and secretary François Laurence has done and continues to do for us each day, and that we hope he will continue to do in the future. To him, for these reasons and so that he has better means to sustain himself in our service and cover the expenses he will have to make therein, and for several other considerations [.

] We have given and ordered, we want and it pleases us by these presents that he be paid and satisfied with the wages belonging to the office of notary and secretary, which are six sols per day and ten pounds per year for the right to wear a cloak [.] from the day of his appointment to the office from now on each year as long as he holds said office with the money from our ordinary and extraordinary finances through the hands of our treasurer's exchange, general receivers of our finances, treasurers of our wars, and by the simple receipts of said François Laurence, otherwise through the hands of the specific receivers, granaries, and farmers of our finances, and by the discharges of said treasurer's exchange or said receivers of our finances, and by the one or those who can best carry all or part of it, and one year carrying over to the next, without the need for said François Laurence to receive each a note or other receipt than these present ones that we have signed with our own hand. And by which we command and enjoin you and each of you that in making said François Laurence enjoy and use our present orders and instructing you, you pay, give, and deliver said wages to him [.] without making any restrictions or discontinuations [.
