Louis-Ferdinand CÉLINE - Autographed letter signed Destouches - Pamphlets - 1939. Autographed letter signed "LF Destouches" to André Saudemont (Céline's lawyer since 1938), May 1939, 2 pages. Rare letter from Céline about his pamphlets "Bagatelles pour un massacre" and "L'école des cadavres" in which he expresses his concerns about their fate on the eve of the declaration of war. In response to the publication of the Marchandeau decree in April 1939 aimed at repressing defamations and insults against minorities, Céline is worried about the fate of his pamphlets, as well as his publisher Denoël who is considering a ruse to circumvent its application (unfounded concerns, the decree was not retroactive and reserved for the press regime).] It seems [that the Marchandeau decree] means the withdrawal of Bagatelles and L'école under threat of immediate legal action that should not surprise us. Denoël is considering sending these 2 books to Belgium and selling them there? Is it possible and legally risk-free? Are we thus out of reach? Very slight tear on the lower left side, otherwise good condition.
