CARRE (Leon): Signed Autograph Letter. 1 page on both sides, dated July 28, 1934, sent from Paris and addressed to Leon CLARO in Algiers, Architect of the Building and mastermind of the interior decoration of the Civic Foyer of Algiers. Dear Sir, I have just received your letter and I am pleased to hear that the municipality of Algiers has approved your proposals regarding the selection of artists to collaborate with you; for my part, I can only be very flattered. Understanding your concerns as well as your desire for agreement among your collaborators, I believe, however, that verbal agreements are futile.

It would be useful to get to the heart of the matter by informing each of your collaborators of their obligations and asking them to provide a sample of their graphic orientation that they intend to contribute to the decoration of the Civic Foyer. Once these sketches have been submitted to you, you will be in a better position to judge any dissonance and, consequently, you will be able to intervene effectively and for the benefit of all, in my opinion. There is also a question of scale, where watercolor is of major importance. Therefore, if you could already inform me of the subject I will have to work on and the surface area I will have to cover, I could send you my sketches as soon as possible. Please let me know, preferably by mail, what you think of this suggestion.

In the meantime, believe me, Dear Sir, in my most devoted sentiments as an artist and collaborator - Leon CARRE. I would also be happy to know the names of your collaborators. The candidacy of Leon CARRE will be accepted along with those of BUZON, ASSUS, FERNEZ, CLARO, and ADREY.
