King Umberto I (Humbert I) - Signed letter - 1900. The only Italian sovereign to have been assassinated in modern times. Rare and beautiful signed document, “Umberto,” 1 page, large folio (dimensions: 38 x 25 cm), Naples, April 26, 1900 — three months before his assassination. Letterhead: “UMBERTO I by the grace of God and by the will of the Nation, King of Italy.” Decree stating that the reserve officers named in the document and belonging to the infantry cease to belong to the reserve army, for reasons of state, while retaining their rank (“the reserve officers mentioned, infantry arm, cease to belong to the reserve, for reasons of age, while retaining their rank with the corresponding uniform”).
