A famous French actress, member of the Comédie-Française and nicknamed “the Beautiful Bartet” or “the embodiment of classical tragedy” during the Third Republic. The letter and visiting cards are undated.

The letter is written in black ink on card stock with a heading featuring calligraphic interlacing and symmetrical arabesques. In this letter, Julia Bartet precisely sets out the program for a poetry reading including La Nuit de Mai by Alfred de Musset and Le Sabotier by François Fabié. The two visiting cards, meanwhile, accompany the return of copies of texts to a correspondent and confirm to a lady her availability for a charity concert scheduled for Sunday, May 26. Dimensions: 11.3 x 8.7 cm.

Condition: Very good overall condition. Traces of old mounting tabs.

On the front of the letter and on the back of the two visiting cards. The second visiting card, confirming a meeting time, is slightly torn along the lower edge and shows foxing. Jeanne Julie Regnault, known as Julia Bartet or Mademoiselle Bartet, born on October 28, 1854 in Paris and died on November 18, 1941 in the 8th arrondissement of the same city, was a French actress.
