Juan Gris (1887 - 1927), Spanish painter. Signed autograph letter to art critic and promoter of cubism, raynal maurice. Paris 18 December 1915; 3 pages 1/2 in-8°.

Rare and exceptional letter from the Spanish cubist painter, who died at only forty years old, giving news of the Parisian artistic and literary avant-garde scene, while the war has been engulfed for a year. It in turn evokes the moving burial of humbert marcelle, known as eva gouel, wife of pablo picasso, the surprising conversion to the Catholicism of max jacob, news of the health of andré salmon, the reverdy.

It also reveals the underlying quarrels and tensions within the artistic community: "My dear friend. It's been a long time since I should have answered your last.
