Jean SIBELIUS (1865 - 1957) - Finnish composer. Autographed letter signed addressed to the Berlin bookseller and music publisher Robert Liénau.
1 page large folio (approximately 22 x 27.5 cm), in German. Regarding his works in preparation. "So far, I have not received any letters from London.
However, I have received some from Liverpool. It is a dance intermezzo. If you want this, I would look for it immediately and send it to you. Fazer has taken the songs and promised to hand them over to you with translation.
Until now, I have received nothing from London. I composed 'Pan and Echo' [the work was premiered in Helsinki on March 24]. It is a dance intermezzo.
If you want to have it, I will send it to you right away. Fazer has taken the songs and promised to deliver them to you with the translation.
I send you my best regards." In November 1905, after Berlin and Copenhagen, Sibelius traveled to London for the first time, then to Liverpool, where he conducted and achieved great success. After breaking with the publisher Fazer, Sibelius committed himself to Robert Liénau starting from February 22, 1905, to whom, according to the terms of the contract, he was to provide 4 major works per year. His commitment was not fulfilled by the end of the first year. The Daughter of Pohjola, delivered at the last moment, did not fulfill the contract. It was taken into account for the following year, but the publisher found the work a bit short and added to it. Publisher Robert Liénau published several other prominent composers: Bruckner, Godowsky, Alban Berg, etc.
