Jean & Jacques Richepin – Two signed handwritten letters, Comédie-Française, 1907.

A set of two signed handwritten letters: one by Jean Richepin, poet, novelist, playwright and member of the Académie française; the other by his son Jacques Richepin, playwright and future director of the Théâtre de la Renaissance.

Neither letter is precisely dated.

Jacques Richepin’s letter bears a partially legible postmark suggesting the year 1907. Both are written in black ink: one on wove paper with a deckled edge, signed “Jean Richepin” and bearing an address on Rue Galvani in Paris; the other on a letter card bearing a 10-centime Sower postage stamp, signed “Jacques Richepin”.

In the first letter, Jean Richepin sends a few handwritten lines requested by an unidentified correspondent. In the second, addressed to the actor Coquelin cadet, a full member of the Comédie-Française, Jacques Richepin recalls his comedy (1903) with a touch of nostalgia and expresses a wish to see it revived “at the Français”. No subsequent action on this request is documented.

Both items are preserved in their original blue mounting folder, which bears an old collection label (No.
