Signed autograph letter, on "Paris soir" letterhead, addressed to the gentlemen of the "Salon Vérité" (international literary and artistic association) dated August 13, 1925. And various small papers concerning him. Gentlemen of the Salon Vérité, I have received your letter, so indignant.

If I do not deign to respond to the summons allowing me to appear in public, please note that I hasten to acknowledge receipt of the correspondence. Believe me, I attach no importance to the "Dear Master". This man made his literary fortune with such means, as for talent, let's not even talk about it.

I have great respect for Henri Barbusse, but you will agree that I have the right not to always agree with his views. I prefer a solid reality to all the [communist social utopias] of the author of "Enchainements".

Henri Béraud, born in Lyon on September 21, 1885 and died in Saint-Clément-des-Baleines on the île de Ré on October 24, 1958, was a French novelist - winner of the Goncourt Prize in 1922 - and journalist. Initially engaged on the left, he later turned to the far right and anti-Semitism. Henri Barbusse was a French writer, politician, screenwriter, and journalist, born on May 17, 1873 in Asnières and died on August 30, 1935 in Moscow.
