Flaubert was very close to the sandeau couple with whom he maintained a rich correspondence, both literary and amical, until his death in 1880. This letter can be located on March 20, because flaubert wrote to her caroline niece in his letter of March 13, that he was waiting for her the following week; she left bets before Thursday [March 28, 1867], according to a letter from flaubert addressed to her that day. Caroline commanville, the niece of flaubert, her "holy caro", is the daughter of the sister of the writer, who died a few days after she was born, and abandoned almost immediately by her father. She was raised by her grandmother and her uncle.
Married at the age of 17 to a rich dieppe trader, ernest commanville, she always remained for gustave flaubert the girl he had never had.
