Godefroy CAVAIGNAC - autograph letter signed - 1888. He was born on May 22, 1801, in Paris and died on May 5, 1845, in Saint-Mandé. The son of Jean-Baptiste Cavaignac, he was a fervent defender of press freedom and took an active part in the Revolution of 1830.

Sir Director,

The Commission established by Ministerial Decision of October 24, 1887, to seek ways of providing the State with every desirable guarantee regarding the quality of supplies for the clothing and encampment service, has begun its work, which requires the drafting of a certain number of minutes and a fairly extensive report. Since copying these documents may take a considerable amount of time, I have the honor of asking you to kindly place at the disposal of Mr.

Assistant Controller Weil, Secretary of the Commission, a clerk from the Intendance office, who will otherwise be withdrawn from his usual duties only to the extent necessary.”
