Long signed autograph letter to Miss Risler, 6 pages, 1886. Pastor, Protestant theologian, and Swiss essayist. A long signed autograph letter from Frédéric Godet, dated June 6, 1886, in Neuchâtel, addressed to Miss Risler. Written in black ink on two double sheets of laid paper, with its stamped and postmarked envelope. This long letter reflects the depth of Frédéric Godet's spiritual and theological thought. Touched by the words of his correspondent, he evokes the connection between memory and hope and develops a meditation on how human relationships, marked by the divine seal, are inscribed in eternity. My dear Miss, I was very touched by the lines you sent me, which revived in my heart a multitude of pleasant and indelible memories. There is a relationship between memories and the great hopes on which you question me. For the relationships formed here below, when they have been marked by the divine seal, will certainly enter as elements into those fulfillments of joy that have been promised to us. If all things were to fall silent, with their ears turned toward their Creator, and He spoke alone, not through them, but immediately, in such a way that we heard His own Word, not through the tongue of flesh, not through the voice of an angel, nor through the rumbling of thunder, nor through the dark outline of any resemblance, but by Himself... His work has marked Reformed theology and is still studied today. Dimensions: 13.5 x 20.9 cm. Condition: See photos and description for more details.
