Literary critic, Swiss writer and journalist. This set dates back to the time when Rod, having succeeded marc monnier as professor of comparative literature at the University of Geneva in 1887, was literally stuck in Swiss (until 1893). The letter to rajon inserted in the copy is, moreover, marked by a strong nostalgic feeling of betting and constantly refers to the isolation of the writer: "I suffer here cruelly from my isolation", "you cannot imagine how sorry I am to have come here.

" The letter was troubled by the bibliophile claudius jacquet, cousin of claude rajon, former secretary of the new revue of juliette adam, sub-prefect, in a copy of the sought-after original edition of the three hearts, linked to his figure c. Vieulle, with an autograph sent signed on page of false title to Mr. Rajon / very cordially / edouard rod. Published a year after the meaning of life for which rod obtained the prize of play from the French academy, three hearts contain a very important preface on the old relations of rod to the naturalism of emilium zola and the new ways available to literature, foreshadowing the answer he will make to the survey of jules huret on literary evolution in 1891, where the journalist classed him with france anatole, jules lemaître, maurice barrès, camille de sainte-croix and paul hervieu in the current of "psychologists", and no longer with naturalists.

In this preface Rod develops his theory of intuitiveism in literature: an intuitive, in fact, is a man who looks at himself, and it is indeed this process of inner observation that seems to have to succeed the external observation of naturalists. But it is not enough to look in itself: you have to see something other than yourself. And to continue: Intuitiveism, if by chance one wanted to accept this word, would therefore be the application of intuition as a method of literary psychology: to look in itself, not to know one another or to love one another, but to know and love others; to seek in the microcosm of one's heart the play of the human heart; from there to go further than oneself, and because in itself, whatever one says, reflects the world.
