Autograph letter signed "eugénie" on bereavement paper with thorne jane, baronne de pierres st cloud, September 26, 1860, 2 p. 1/8 in-8, enclosed autograph envelope. Limpératrice mourns the sudden death of her on paca (maria francisca de sales), which occurred ten days earlier. "I thank you for your letter, my dear lady of stones. I am so under the painful impression of the loss that I have just made that it seems to me that I am coming out of a painful sleep, and that nothing of what has happened is true. Indeed how it could otherwise be I had seized my beloved on full [sic] of life and now I find only the emptiness around me, the marks of sympathy that I receive are yet a softening to my pain, and I thank you for all the heart of your good letter. I kiss you by recommending my over to your prayers. Then installed in madrid, eugenie's empress did everything she could to bring back her sick betting sure. She died on 16 Sept.
1860 at the age of 35. Jane thorne is one of the ladies of honor represented with eugenicity in the famous painting of franz xaver winterhalter.
