"I undertake to pay to Monsieur dupont-Auberville the sum of seven hundred and fifty francs, representing the half-term of the 1. July to August 15, 1889, when he delivered to me on that date of August 15, one thousand eight hundred and four nine, the apartment that I rented in his building on rue de bruxelles, n°21. It was therefore in 1889, a few months later, that the zola family took possession of the apartment where the writer would write "Jaccuse". His death by asphyxiation, on 29 September 1902, during his sleep, will be the subject of many hypotheses and still preserves a part of mystery today. Note that during the 14 years of residence at this address, the neighbour of zola at 21, rue de bruxelles, is other than m.
