He thanks him for kindly recommending their protégé: “he could not have been better supported.” He would be very happy to see him but on a different day than the one proposed: “I am in the midst of work (.) then writes “I am glad to know you are happy with another child under your roof, all my congratulations to Jean-Arthur” (his son). The Musée d'Orsay holds a painting by Édouard Vuillard depicting Arthur Fontaine, a friend of many writers including Francis Jammes and André Gide.
