A set of two signed autograph letters, by Edgar Quinet and his wife Hermione Quinet. Signed autograph letter by Edgar Quinet, dated November 7, 1868 in Geneva, written in brown ink on a laid paper sheet. He sends his proofs to his correspondent and asks for them to be sent back to him.

Signed autograph letter by Hermione Quinet, addressed to the sister of Monsieur Laurent-Pichat, dated January 29, no year, in Versailles, written in brown ink on a laid paper sheet. She remembers their meeting and regrets not having had another opportunity to see her again. Dimensions: 13.2 x 20.5 cm.

Edgar Jean Louis Quinet, born on February 17, 1803 in Bourg-en-Bresse and died on March 27, 1875 in Versailles, was a French historian, poet, philosopher, and politician, a republican and anticlerical thinker. Hermione Quinet, also known as Hermione Asachi or the widow of Edgar Quinet, was a Romanian writer and translator, later naturalized as French. She was both the collaborator and wife of Edgar Quinet. Léon Laurent-Pichat, born on July 11, 1823 in Paris and died on June 12, 1886 in the same city, was a French politician, poet, and man of letters, best known for the role he played in the publication of the first edition of Gustave Flaubert’s Madame Bovary in 1857.
