Autographed letter signed "GS" to Eugène Delacroix Paris, c. In-8, addressed [by bearer] "Mr. Delacroix" on the verso, seal break.

Former mounting trace on the fourth sheet, a few small stains. A charming invitation from George Sand to her friend Eugène Delacroix. "If you can come to dinner with us at Mme Marliani's, you will do us all an immense pleasure; otherwise, come to the theater at 8 p. The box number is 19 - 3mes." Charlotte Marliani meets George Sand in 1836 and quickly becomes the confidante of the writer who, in 1838, dedicates her novel La Dernière Aldini to her.

Delacroix meets Charlotte Marliani as early as 1838 through George Sand. The closeness of the two women is evident in the painter's correspondence. He appreciates the writer's friend: "send a thousand regards to Mme Marliani" [letter of April 10, 1842]. Delacroix also regularly visits the Marliani couple during the 1840s. He remains close to Charlotte Marliani during her marital problems and following her separation from her husband in 1847.

Starting in 1847, the year he resumed his Journal, Delacroix notes several dinners at her place. A few years after her death, the painter writes: "I have revisited that salon where we spent cheerful and pleasant moments at good Marliani's." This letter reflects the affectionate friendship between the novelist and the painter. Beginning in 1834, it will only end with Delacroix's death in 1863. They exchanged one of the most beautiful correspondences of the 19th century.

Eugène Delacroix resides at 17, rue des Marais Saint-Germain in Paris from 1836 to 1844 (now rue Visconti). It is in this studio that he paints the famous portrait of the novelist and Frédéric Chopin. Achille Piron (universal legatee of Delacroix) Bibliothèque Marc Loliée.
