Autograph letter signed by La Pelouze, dated Besançon, August 24, 1780. An early annotation explicitly identifies the signatory as “Major of the Champagne Regiment.” Military correspondence from the Ancien Régime, written just a few years before the French Revolution. De La Pelouze, major of the Champagne Regiment, is documented as early as 1778: he notably appears in an account reporting the rescue of four grenadiers from his regiment at Fécamp, an incident brought to the king’s attention by Sartine.
Period laid paper, original folds, minor signs of age; handwriting and signature clearly legible.
