Autograph letter signed to Thierry Maulnier, 1971. Autograph letter signed by Claude Mauriac. Addressed to Thierry Maulnier, dated January 26, 1971. Written in black ink on a sheet of vellum paper, with a wet stamp reading “Fonds Archives privées Th Maulnier.”
In this moving letter, Claude Mauriac warmly thanks the academician Thierry Maulnier for his article following the death of his father, François Mauriac (which occurred a few months earlier, in September 1970).
He speaks emotionally of the “sudden silence” that followed the loss of the Nobel Prize winner and conveys the thanks of the entire family, explicitly mentioning his mother (Jeanne Mauriac).
“I was deeply moved, dear Thierry Maulnier, by this very beautiful article. Added to our grief is the sadness of this sudden silence, which you so magnificently understood.
On behalf of all the Mauriacs, very moved (my mother will surely write to you), I warmly shake your hand.”
