Autograph letter signed by an unfortunate cripple, 1820. Autograph letter signed by Claude François Beaulieu, dated December 1, 1820, in London, concerning a debt that his correspondent has not repaid and does not seem willing to pay. Written in brown ink on a single sheet of vellum paper. “I was very surprised, my dear sir, when I received the returned bill of exchange that I drew on you, in favor of Mr. [Bower] Washington, for the sum of one hundred dollars, coming from my last pension, which your brother in Baltimore collected for me at the treasury, and which you had promised to send me as soon as you arrived in America; but I see that, by all the evasions you resort to, you have no desire whatsoever to settle the payment...
