Long handwritten letter, signed, 7 pages. French journalist, essayist, politician, and poet.

Long, undated handwritten letter signed by Charles Maurras. Written in black ink on seven sheets of wove paper. This lengthy message conveys considerable political anxiety and presents a detailed argument for the need for united action against what he sees as an imminent threat.

It offers an in-depth reflection on the strategy to adopt and the risks of inaction.

The letter contains several phrases characteristic of Maurras’s political activism. He speaks of “growing anxiety,” questions the direction being taken—“Where are we heading?”—and stresses the urgent need for collective unity: “The letter shows the need to unite against all these madmen and all these scoundrels.” He firmly rejects the idea that unity could harm any of those involved: “But it is even more absurd to imagine that unity will compromise any of us!”

Further on, he highlights the importance of a specific date, probably connected to an election or a strategic opportunity: “The 17th is approaching; are we going to miss the opportunity to assert ourselves... That would be a great disgrace.” The text continues with a direct call for collective action: “We must achieve unity through action.”

This is a substantial political document, characteristic of Maurras in both its style and the concerns expressed, offering revealing insight into his thinking and political activism.
