I must thank you for your kind and loyal words, and since I have just seen that you have joined the ranks of the septuagenarians, I ask you to accept my most sincere congratulations, albeit somewhat late.

The fact that you attended 11?

courses with me fills me with astonishment and admiration; I had only remembered that, in a logic course that I was only able to begin later because of a leisure trip, you were one of my two listeners and that you stayed the course, even though the other one occasionally skipped class.

Your work on the foundations of criminal law and on the question of causality has always been particularly valuable to me.

If fate were to bring us together once again, it would be a great pleasure for me.

Carl Stumpf was a German psychologist and philosopher. Known to his contemporaries for his work on perception, especially auditory perception, and for his theory of emotions, he had a major influence on Husserl’s phenomenology and on Gestalt psychology.
