Autograph letter: Dear colleague, Please accept this belated message of thanks, sent in error, for your kind gift and at the same time sincere wishes for your health! I think a lot and with pleasure about our time in Prague and about my former renowned student in law.

Typed letter: Overwhelmed by the abundance of expressions of attachment, devotion, and love that have been addressed to me on the occasion of my 80th birthday, I can only express with weak words the heartfelt thanks, emotion, and feeling of happiness that the experiences of these days have left in me like a solid cement for the rest of my life. Yes, as it has been expressed from all sides, orally and in writing, this is what I meant, not only in friendly relations, but also in the council, the office, the institute, and among colleagues.

But I did not realize that my public actions had found such an echo in souls, and I feel once again strengthened in the conviction that the ideal sanctuaries of truth, beauty, and gentleness create an indestructible spiritual community between individuals and nations, but at the same time, we are confirmed in our love for our German country and people, whose deep and invisible sources provide all of us with the necessary strength and to whom we owe infinitely more than we can repay in a long life.
