Autograph letter signed Auguste Maquet - Dumas - Rue de Bruxelles. Autograph letter signed by Auguste Maquet, the famous collaborator of Alexandre Dumas père, with whom he took part in writing several masterpieces of French historical fiction such as The Three Musketeers, The Count of Monte Cristo, etc.

Dated November 25, with no year, the letter is written on printed letterhead reading “Rue de Bruxelles 18, Paris,” the writer’s documented address, and bears his embossed monogram. In it, he warmly replies to an unidentified correspondent, promising to send two tickets.

“I have not forgotten either you, or your article, or my promise, and I only regret that you ask so little of me; you will have your two tickets, the best ones from my allocation, and I will have the pleasure of sending them to you as soon as they are handed to me.” The signature “Maquet” is clear and clearly visible. Dimensions: 13.1 x 20.4 cm.

Although the content does not directly mention Alexandre Dumas, the relationship between Maquet and Dumas is recalled in an old pencil note. This document would fit well in a collection of literary letters or among enthusiasts of 19th-century French material.

Auguste Maquet, born in Paris on September 13, 1813 and died in Sainte-Mesme on January 8, 1888, was a French novelist and playwright, best known for his collaboration with Alexandre Dumas. Alexandre Dumas was a French writer born on July 24, 1802 in Villers-Cotterêts and died on December 5, 1870 in the hamlet of Puys, former commune of Neuville-lès-Dieppe, now part of Dieppe.
