Augusto Conti, Philosopher - Autographed letter signed - Freedom, faith, etc. Autographed letter signed by Augusto Conti, dated January 17, 1867, in Pisa, addressed to "My revered and dear Sir," written in Italian with brown ink on a sheet of wove paper. In this handwritten letter, Conti comments on the publication of his work Il Padre Celeste, edited by Pietro Menozzi, along with a discourse on the "revealed contradictions.

" He reflects on the attacks directed against this work by a writer from the journal Civiltà Cattolica, denouncing critiques imbued with sectarianism rather than genuine religious zeal. He discusses the philosophical tensions surrounding the notion of freedom, particularly with certain Catholic thinkers opposed to his views.

He defends the doctrinal integrity of his own writings, despite the controversies. Conti also mentions having received, without knowing the sender, two copies of a work by the Swiss philosopher Charles-Gabriel-Rodolphe Secrétan: La Philosophie de la Liberté (The Idea), and speculates that his correspondent may be the author of the sending.

He also talks about the philosopher Félix Ravaisson, who is writing a History of Contemporary Philosophy, to whom he would like to send two of his books. Finally, he warmly thanks his correspondent for a text titled La Morale Indépendante, which he considers "truly beautiful in every aspect," and which he has recommended to his students. The letter concludes with an apology for its brevity, mentioning that his responsibilities as a deputy and professor compel him to frequent travels between Florence and Pisa.
