Rodin to Hippolyte Durand-Tahier, notary, then journalist, art writer, talented poet, and painter under the pseudonym Paul Froment. Having gone to the countryside since Saturday, I am only now reading my nomination by the delegates.
I would like to thank my comrades for their esteem at the next meeting, which I am touched by. Durand-Tahier was the general secretary of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts (SNBA). In 1889, Rodin was elected among the founding members, an important recognition from his peers. The following year, he actively participated in the re-founding of the Society, alongside Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, helping to give it a more modern direction. Under this new impetus, the SNBA became more open to innovative artistic movements and quickly gained favor with art critics and discerning collectors.
