French novelist and playwright, collaborator of Alexandre Dumas. Autographed letter signed by Auguste Maquet, dated June 1st without a year. Written in brown ink on a sheet of laid paper.

I would not have waited to help you to the extent of my abilities if your theater had been independent, that is to say, free from any extra literary and artistic influence.
