Autographed letter signed dated September 21, 1838. Autographed letter signed to a certain [Lajarriète], dated September 21, 1838, in which he criticizes actor Charles POTIER with whom he shares the stage. My dear [Lajarriète], I am addressing you because Charles, although an excellent guy, is such a scatterbrain that three-quarters of the time, instead of listening and responding to you, he listens and responds to himself. He wants one thing, and he arranges it so that this thing is not, not of his own will, but involuntarily, but driven by his nature. Thus, in the present case, he gives me the impression of those Opera confectioners who shout at the top of their lungs: let's withdraw, let's be silent...

The tyrant who pursues us must not know anything about this important mystery etc etc so that the tyrant, who is just a step away, can hear and say with all truth: in vain does treachery want to keep silent, it has betrayed itself... I have caught his secret...

As the spectator can see, this has not been absolutely impossible for him. It is perfectly applicable to the present case. Charles keeps repeating to us: I don't want anyone to know...

Especially that I am in the play with Antony: but one can think that this good Charles would not mind if everyone could read on his forehead: He is involved. Dimensions: 21 x 13.5 cm. Condition: Old repairs with tape, see photos for more details. Number of pages: 4 pages.
