Director of the Revue Contemporaine, writer. Signed autograph letter to a colleague concerning Paul Verlaine. Fair condition: the two leaves are detached, and the central fold is in danger of splitting (see photos). Verlaine’s very unusual life, difficult to keep track of, as well as delays in payment of the subscriptions, force me to discontinue the subscription of the 28 cent-souïstes that we had organized, as of January 1. If you would prefer to pay the [illegible], from July to December, please do so directly to Verlaine, but let me know by letter, since the good poet quite simply accuses me of pocketing the amount of the delays. Contemporaine, to which Verlaine contributed, the writer and musician Adrien Remacle was in return the subject of a poem in the collection. Bouquet de rimes offered nominally to personal friends, for the most part. Published by Vanier in 1890 and expanded in 1894, and he set to music one work by the accursed poet. We have found no trace of this subscription in Verlaine’s honor, but it adds to the long list of all those organized to support him during his lifetime, because of his miserable existence and catastrophic final years.

A fine document for its useful content for Verlaine scholarship and the reception of his work among his contemporaries, but in fragile condition (see photos).
