I have made another one on my own, even more precise. I must not hide from you that there have been attempts to misrepresent your political opinions to the Ministry of the Interior. You have been portrayed as holding on to the July Government out of memory and affection, and as being inclined to reinforce Mr. Thiers' group, should you, like him, arrive at the legislative body. It pains me to have to report these circumstances to you, but in being frank, I pay tribute to your character and I am convinced that you will appreciate my intentions.
